After School
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the hours?
School Release (approximately 2:45PM) to 6PM for our Limestone Unit and Mitchell Community Schools Site. Thornton Teen Center remains open until 8PM.
Who can attend?
After School is open to kids in grades K-12th grade. We welcome all youth from public, private, and home schools.
What will my child be doing at the Club?
Our programming includes STEM, Arts & Crafts, Cooking, Games, Gym Activities, Homework Help, and more! Members rotate through programs in order to experience a variety of activities each day.
Do you provide snacks or meals?
All locations serve a snack each day upon arrival After School. Our Limestone Unit and Teen Center serve a balanced, hot evening meal each day at 5:30PM. Both are free and available to all members.
How does my child get to their Club Site from school?
Parkview, BMS, and Mitchell Jr High School members walk to their Club location. Students in K-6th grade are escorted by school and Club staff between buildings. Bus transportation is provided to get students from Needmore, Dollens, Shawswick, Lincoln, BNL, Burris, and LCIS to their Club Site. All members must be picked-up from their Club Site by an approved parent or guardian.
What happens if my child doesn’t get a transportation spot?
Any child that doesn’t get a transportation spot will be put on a waitlist. If your family can provide transportation, your child can participate even if transportation spots are full. Transportation limits only pertain to Needmore, Dollens, Lincoln, and Shawswick students due to limited available buses.
Are you open during the school breaks or holidays?
We follow the North Lawrence Community School's and Mitchell Community School's schedules. We close for holidays and breaks observed by the school. If we need to close for additional days, we announce them as soon as possible to provide guardians a chance to make other plans.
What should my child leave at home when coming to the Club?
It is best to leave toys and personal items at home as the chances of things getting lost or broken is high with so many children present. Cell phones should be left at home or members will be asked to leave it in their backpack (with the exception of the Teen Center). Members are welcome to bring water bottles and snacks which will be stored in their backpacks and monitored by a staff member.
How does registration work?
Register to attend on our Parent Portal. You must complete both Membership Registration and Program Registration. Registering for a 2026-27 Club Membership is $30. After purchasing your Membership, you must complete Program Registration for your child’s specific school site. This allows the schools to know who they can release to us and is critical for schools that transport students by bus to our sites.
What are the requirements to work at the Club?
All staff and volunteers must successfully pass a background check before working with youth. They also complete extensive training in child safety, trauma-informed care, mental health awareness, youth development, and Boys & Girls Club programming. In addition, staff are certified in CPR and AED. During After School programs, we maintain a minimum staff-to-member ratio of 1:20 and do not allow staff to be alone one-on-one with a youth member.
